HYA was engaged to develop a concept design for a new modern residence that grew out of a focus on establishing moments between the interior living spaces and the panoramic views of the Atherton hills and Bay.
An understated entry off the main drive opens up to immediate access to dramatic 180 degree views overlooking the Bay. The home is divided into two distinct areas: the entertaining wing with an expansive great room connecting to view filled outdoor terraces, and a private family wing with a large open concept kitchen, informal dining and family room. Additionally the ground floor features a formal dining room, library and home office off the main entry, a butler’s pantry, mudroom, elevator, and a guest suite. The second floor has an expansive primary bedroom suite with a luxurious bath which flows onto a private terrace, and four additional bedroom suites.
The exterior features a natural, textured palette, with a museum concrete finish at the base, and two types of vertical cedar at the upper floors: “Shou-Sugi-Ban” blackened cedar at the entertaining wing, and a soft, beautifully bleached cedar for contrast at the family wing. This palette complements the expansive operable glazing throughout this distinct modern home.
