Although not originally built for occupancy, the attic apartment of this 1906 Colonial Revival home was integrated with the main floor of the house structurally, functionally and proportionally. Small dark rooms were eliminated creating an open floor plan with a new central stair under an existing dormer. the new design boasts large storage areas under the second floor eaves, direct interior access to the unfinished basement and a new covered porch under the mature redwoods. Front porch columns of this Palo Alto Category 4 Historic “Cape Cod” Colonial were reinforced without changing their appearance by hollowing them and adding steel inside.
