The Foster Art and Wilderness Foundation, a LEED Silver certified project, provides a home for exhibition of artist Tony Foster’s watercolor works that inspire people to connect with wilderness. Redevelopment on the 1950’s concrete tilt-up warehouse preserved the original concrete walls and floors, and the roof structure.
The design solution embraces the building bones by detaching thickened gallery walls from the roof structure, allowing the seamless roof to be a backdrop to the lit display walls and hover over the exhibit areas. The open plan allows for flexibility in the placement of the display walls to create an experience or journey for visitors to the Foundation, winding through spaces of different proportions, perspectives and experiences.
